How important is international experience?

Question

Is working in a country other than the US a plus for business school applications? Also is it a desired experience for job candidates?

Been in IBD in an emerging market for a few years now (not originally from here). I can't really speak to B School applications as I've never applied, but my guess would be that, all things equal, a candidate who spent a few years in finance overseas could use that to differentiate their application in a positive way.

I may have the opportunity to take an international assignment in 9 months or so with my current company and am looking to hear people's opinions/experiences surrounding this opportunity.

Some specifics:
Work for a F500 mfg company (FLDP) 
Will have ~ 2 yrs exp at that time
South America location - Plant FP&A and accounting

The assignment would be for a year. How valuable do you think this type of experience would be valued internally and/or externally?

Is International Experience Valued? (Originally Posted: 09/10/2016)

I currently work in the US for an international company (with the headquarters in Europe) on the corp dev team. I have always thought about making a move into banking (I've never been able to transition in). I have an opportunity to possibly work in Europe for a short stint (less than a year).

Do you guys think this is something that a US banks will value?  I'd be targeting MM.
