How would you rank these schools for a future in Trading?
Hi! I'm sure my interests will be subject to change over the next four years (high school senior), but I'm curious as to which of these schools would best place/prepare me for a future in trading (if you could rank them in order that would be much appreciated):
Rice
Tulane
UNC - Chapel Hill
Bentley
University of Richmond
Baruch
Villanova
Emory
I should note that I don't much care which city I end up in, so long as I'm trading. And I have no preference as to which type of trading at the moment.
I would say, if money is not an object, that you should throw out Baruch, Bentley, and Richmond, and then just pick the school that you like the most. Since you haven't really narrowed down your preference beyond "trading" (which is uselessly broad), you may as well select based on other characteristics.. you'll be able to get in to "trading" from any of them if you're determined (which you seem to be).
I'd say order your schools in this order UNC>Rice>Richmond>Villanova>emory>everything else
I would definitely agree with this order. Rice may be a slightly better school than UNC, but UNC is still a great school, and the social life would be much better. I went to UChicago, and one time I met a kid there visiting from Rice who said that Rice somehow had uglier girls AND a worse social life than UC, and UC has more beat up dogs on campus than a Mike Vick fight night. Avoid Rice at all costs.
Thanks for the fast replies! So UNC is definitely better then University of Richmond? And no one has mentioned Tulane at all, I thought they were one of the better schools for energy trading (I know I didn't mention a specialty).
Rice/UNC --> Emory/Tulane ... Those are you choices
Unfortunately, UNC is not an option anymore. I've applied to Rice, been accepted at Tulane, and I'm going to apply to either Villanova or University of Richmond. I'm leaning toward Richmond because of their generous aid and I read somewhere on WSO that they send a respectable amount of graduates to S&T. Is that a fair statement?

Emory and Richmond both send a decent amount of kids to the financial industry.
Both have what can be considered up-and-coming alumni networks that are both finally starting to gain traction. I believe Emory has a strong IBD network and Richmond has quite a few S&T people up in New York as well.

tulane and rice place well in commodities trading since they are more southern
^ That was my understanding, and Tulane even hosts the major energy trading competition..
I live in Chicago - many prop shop guys are from Rice around here
