IB -> Starting Company... M7 MBA?
How would an M7 MBA program view someone with 1-2 years of IB experience who took a leap of faith to start a business instead of pursuing the traditional path of PE (assuming the business lasted 1-2 years)? Would it be a tangible differentiator on an application vs. those who went IB -> PE?
Other stats for consideration: Undergrad: Mid-tier State School, Finance Major GPA: 3.8 GMAT: Based off practice tests, realistically between 710-730
Hi InvestInYourShelf, whoops, looks like nobody chimed in here.... maybe one of these discussions below is relevant:
If those topics were completely useless, don't blame me, blame my programmers...
get the GMAT to 730+ and you should have a shot at some of the non H/S M7 depending on what bank/group you worked at and what success you have to show for the business you started
InvestinYourShelf,
Starting your own business could be a differentiator, depending on the nature of the business, but there will be other applicants who also went from IB to entrepreneurship and starting a business. The mere fact that you started a biz isn't enough. Your perspective on the experience, your role in its growth or what you learned form its failure, what you hoped (and hope) to accomplish, what you want to do after the MBA, are all germane.
And of course the GMAT does count. Closer or above 730, would be nice.
Best, Linda
