Internship Cancellled - non target what to do
recently accepted an Equity research position at a middle-market investment firm which decided to postpone their summer internship to 2021 ( feels like they couldn't be bothered doing remote working). However, I 'll be in my final year then and was planning to use this experience to strengthen my application for IB SA 2021 and this was key for my strategy as a non target as didn't get any IB interview for SA 2020 and a bit lost now about what to do.
I also completed a back-office spring at top BB and would get a fast track for their SA 2021 but it is not really where I hope to end up
Worst is, I reneged a quite stable SA sales role at Google/Bloomberg/FT ( now happening online) and was contemplating the idea to ask them to take me back, would that be too rude?
All of that is complicated by the fact I am an international student, so basically have a finite amount of time left in the UK. Also started preparing to apply for a master at a target, but still unsure
What do you guys think is the best course of action in this situation

tough call honestly. Ask if you could do it remotely? Going back to BBG/Google/FT would not go well imo but worth a shot givne that you have nothing to loose.
I think that rude is not the word, it would be quite disrespectful due to having them as a "second plate", nevertheless I would understand it given current situation.
In my humble opinion I would try to push a little to be able that MM and try to ask to work for free or at least support them with whatever grunt work needed. For sure that its not ideal but that would help you to gain some experience & exposure.
Any case, the main thing is that it happened to many people that have beendelayed their offer for next summer, even at 2 EBs in continental Europe. (As far as I know). Which means that competition for good spots will be smaller due to having less kids with real experience (excluding BB interns from my analysis) so that should play for you as well.
Its a really weird situation, at my bank we are working more than ever and I think people would understand it in the interview if you explain you had X job offer lined up and it got delayed but you decided to learn XXX in order to gain some relevant skills in the meanwhile
