Is Berkeley too Liberal?

I know Berkeley is a great school, butI also know it is extremely liberal. Does this affect Berkeley’s reputation? Does this ever negatively affect recruiting opportunities? Is Berkeley just to liberal? I don’t want to go there and be and be viewed as an extremist liberal... is this a legitimate concern?

I’ve only ever run into this with people outside of my career and school (relatives making jokes at family gatherings etc...) in terms of the professional world, most people know Berkeley is good a school with a great business/Econ program

I am a Republican who goes to UC Berkeley, and a decent number of people I know on campus are conservatives. Most people don't think of Berkeley students as radical liberals, and it definitely won't affect recruiting. Engineering department and Business (Haas) students are basically moderate, and the campus itself is less liberal than the city. Most of the international students and people there to study don't give a damn about politics.

Just as long as you never talk about politics in public, and especially in class, you'll be fine. Even moderate liberals don't speak up, it's just not worth it. It's not as bad as you think though. Most college campuses are actually like this nowadays I hear.

Rather than politics, I would be more concerned about housing shortages, a lack of space in classes, the fact that there is human shit all over the city, transients everywhere, and murders occurring right under your dorm window. Again it's not that bad, since you do get used to it. Just don't expect anything like UCLA/Stanford vibes.

Oh, and all the protests you hear of are basically cartoons, memes, etc. People enjoy going to them to throw shit and have fun -- it's actually an enjoyable recreational activity. It's like a damn circus to be honest.... people who aren't even students pull up to watch the clowns.

But as far as recruiting, no it won't affect you. The Business program is great... so get your ass over to Cal. Go Bears
