it comes down to work ethic and grind tbh...some of the non-targets are smarter than the target kids who got in based on wealth/nepotism although overall the target kids are probably smarter.
Really the only edge being smart gives you is on some of the most technical modelling scenarios but even then its not rocket science
The absolute smartest analysts/associates don't stay in banking or don't put in full effort because they know its so dumb
