Looking for others interested in helping me start a volunteer organization in NYC.

Hello everyone,

I am a long-time reader of but not a frequent poster on WSO. This post is not necessarily related to B-School per se, but I am looking for help from some of you potentially looking for extracurricular leadership experience for an MBA application a few years out.

Specifically, I am looking for others who might be interested in helping me start an NYC branch of a nationwide non-profit. The non-profit is dedicated to helping under-served children obtain the books they need. I am hoping to form a 4-5 person Advisory Board to get this organization off the ground in Manhattan. I do not anticipate the time commitment being too large, and I assume most of the work can be done from a desk in your spare time at work if necessary. Responsibilities (which I have not yet worked out specifically) may include fundraising, outreach, advertising, event planning, etc.

I hope this is an opportunity that might interest some of you. Like I said, it is a great chance to make a difference in the community and also to develop some of the leadership experience we all need for our B-School resumes.

Please PM me if you are interested in learning more, and we will go from there.

Thanks!

If I was in NY and had a FT job I would definately be on board with this. Always wanted to give back in some capacity beyond what I have already done so I think it's a great idea.
