Low 160s GRE. Re-take GRE or study for GMAT?

I scored in the low 160s for both the quant and verbal section of the GRE. My quant score needs improvement.

I have a low GPA and plan on applying for a MSF program. I suspect a high gmat score would be better than a high GRE to offset my GPA (this would allow the school to boast about high GMAT #'s if they're #'s whores).

Would it be wiser to study for the GMAT given my situation? How much time should I allocate to additional prep? 1 month? 2 months?

Your logic makes sense. I mean since you didn't do so hot on the GRE and anyhow the schools prefer GMAT, might as well take the other test.

I think to really prepare the GMAT well, though it'll take you likely in the range of three/four months minimum (some people prepare for a year or more). And it's better to be fully prepared before taking your first shot. Plus you got plenty of time before next year's apps...
