Low GPA in Engineering Major applying to top Business Schools
If I was to apply to top business schools such as Wharton or Harvard what GPA would I need around as an undergraduate who went to the University of Michigan and double majored in computer science and economics.
I would be curious what other people have to say about this, as I am in a similar boat. I have a 3.1, so not terrible but not outstanding.
What I have heard from people before is that this pretty much excludes from H/S, which isn't surprising how hard it is to get in there, but should be fine almost anywhere else with strong GMAT and work experience.
I have noticed that schools such as Haas and Ross tend to emphasize GPA pretty heavily, whereas schools like Wharton don't. I am going to plan my applications around schools that seem to emphasize the GPA less, although I'm not yet positive which those are.
The importance of GPA is generally overstated. If you do well on the GMAT you can mitigate a lot of concerns about a low GPA. Work and life experience tends to be more valued by the top programs. The top 10 programs have plenty of applicants with high GPAs.
