LSE application: my course pick for breaking into IBD
Monkeys, I'm studying for the GMAT and my score will be decisive for get into an LSE program. I can choice 2 course at the beginning. My best choices are (in order): Finance and PE Accounting & Finance Management Economics and Management Quantitative methods for risk management Management and strategy Risk and finance Economics Economic History International Political Economy Economic Risk e Society Political Economy Of Europe
The last ones have highest acceptance rate (A&F roughly 14) LSE is my first choice than other business school.
Alright then
Which one do you think I should put as 3rd or 4th? An MSc in Economic History is better than an hypothetical MSc in corporate finance at Cass or a MiM at ESCP?
If you want to be in London, the MSc in Economic History from LSE will help you the most. Even though the MiM at ESCP is a great program, I would lean towards choosing LSE.
You're a big one :D see you soon in Paris
I would pick for 3-4 and next the most quantitative. But all of these are good because you have the brand name: LSE!
I can only echo this! The brand name will help you a lot. It's an open secret that there are quite a few students at LSE who are only there to get the brand name and use it to land a nice job after :)
The LSE brand will of course be consistent across all courses and most are related (to varying extents) to finance roles. It'd be fair to assume that the university brand is the most important part of going to LSE. In terms of picking the course, I think it is a good idea to prioritise those that 1) will actually be useful for your chosen career path (these will be the first two on the the top of your list if you want to go into finance) and then 2) you will enjoy and excel at (could be any of the others). For IB, I think any of the accounting, finance, economics or management courses would suffice for your top two picks. The economic history and politics ones would be less useful and relevant but would still make good third and fourth choice picks (tbf they'd probably be good enough to land IB jobs anyway). Good luck.
Your point is really good! Thank you so much bro and best wishes to you as well
