MBA Associate left us high and dry

Background: West coast office, laid back, allowed to wear polos, etc. MBA associate wears polos almost daily, we usually wear a patagonia vest, etc. Anyways...

Our MBA associate just resigned and sent me and one more analyst to HR because he said we continued to call him our "T-mobile tech support guy", and that we called him and asked for tech support regularly. 

He did look like he sold phones for T-Mobile so it doesnt seem to be our fault. He quit in the middle of a deal so man we got screwed with extra work. 

Should I apologize? Seems like we got even
