MBA? - Graduate with an undergrad biz degree

Don't kill me for this stupid question. I will graduate w/ an undergrad biz degree. I think I would like to start as a financial analyst. In order to move up the ladder, do I still need an MBA? Can I get this MBA maybe after 1 year of working while I work and finish my 3 years of being an analyst?

Thanks!

Starting an MBA after one year of working would mean that you'd be applying with less than 6 months work experience - you wouldn't get into a top program (a few people apply and get in after two years as an analyst, but that's rare).

Even if you were to get in though, it would be impossible to do in addition to work. The two main components of your life as an analyst are work and sleep, with sleep often fighting a losing battle. There'd be no time to add on an evening MBA, which takes 3+ years to complete anyways, so you wouldn't finish it before your status as an analyst ends under your 1 yr scenario.

Whether or not an MBA is necessary at all is debatable; some people have done fine in IB without it, and it certainly doesn't hurt, especially if you ever want to change career paths.

Tried not to kill you because you were honest about what the question was.

thanks! I guess I don't want to stop working and go back to school after only 3 years of working. How am I going to support myself.

Also, what about the tuition part, I see on a lot of companies' website that they help w/ MBA?
