MBA Profile Eval
I'm thinking about applying to business school, particularly something in the 8-15 range. I was hoping I could get some feedback regarding my profile.
Graduated finance and accounting from a non-target with a 3.7 GPA. My first job out of undergrad was for a mid-tier public accounting firm. I quit after a year to travel, and spent 8 mos. backpacking South America. It took me a few months to find a job, but I landed an internal audit job at a F15 company in March 2015. I got promoted to senior auditor after my first year and just landed a job as a Senior Credit Risk Analyst, which is a promotion. The new position is on a front-office team, but I'm still doing risk management.. I have also been volunteering for the past two years teaching inner city math. My initial gmat score was 680, so I think i can get a 720 with enough practice.
I think I could also get some pretty strong recs, but not sure how much weight that carries.
What i think I have going for me is that i'm well-rounded and have gotten a lot of promotions very quickly.
You need to get your GMAT above 700 if you want a decent chance at schools b/w 8-15. I don't think your current profile necessarily stands out among the typical folks who go to those schools.
Initial gmat score as in - I haven't done any prep.
Any recommendations on how to improve my profile?
Aside from the gmat score, rack up some more promotions at work and get some more formal volunteer activities like a charity advisory board or two.
