MFE Profile Eval & Qs

Hi.

I'm interested in applying to UCB & Columbia MFE program.

My information is as follows:

BSE in EE from top10 program with 3.45 GPA
MSE in ECE (electrical & computer engineer) from top 5 with 3.5 GPA
1 yr of Full time work experience in High Tech (think google or apple)
GRE: 156V 170Q 4.0AWA

How do you see my chances?

In addition,

I would prefer to work in Quant Research/Analysis related role to trader or SW Quant Developer.

Do you see it plausible? And is there anything I could prepare to get into these roles? e.g. CFA

Decent, but your GPA is a little weak. You might need a couple more years of work experience to offset that. The CFA L1 could help show your interest in finance. Make sure you have all the required courses for UCB. It's probably worth an application to UCB, but I'm not sure about Columbia. I get the impression that Columbia values academics more and Berkeley puts more of a premium on work experience. Check out QuantNet.

 

Thanks for your insight. Regarding your statement "more yrs of work experience to offset that (weak gpa)", does the work experience have to be finance-related/relevant? Or can it be just engineering or quant/technical work?
