Bump because I am also interested in this and can find no info. With my US and Latin America background I have no idea how well regarded this course/university is.
The handbook online sounds really good. Intense, but I guess that's better than being bored.

Thumbs down. Sounds like if I'm interested in venture / PE funds investing in junior resource companies I'm better off going down the traditional MBA route.

Thumbs down. Sounds like yet another program created to generate revenue for the school, but I'd hate to be the guinea pig with no history to draw on to solidify my own end result.
Metals Energy and Finance (Originally Posted: 04/06/2013)
I saw a Msc degree at Imperial called Metals Energy & Finance. The course work is pretty interesting. One semester you learn about metallurgy, mining, geoscience, petroleum engineering etc. During the second semester they teach you finance stuff like planning etc and arrange a field trip at a mine somewhere in the world like South Africa.
Anyway I thought it was pretty interesting and I was wondering if anyone has more info about it. Anyone been there or know somebody who is a graduate? What are the possible career paths to take from there?
Looks interesting. You might also be interested in the new mining-focused MBA program at Schulich. Working in the mining industry, I notice there's a lot more sector-specific knowledge needed for people in finance that deal with this industry compared to others. A lot of ER and IB folks that deal with us are former geologists and mining engineers. I imagine this program would give you leg up in understanding this industry compared to your peers. When I see analysts visit our mine who have clearly never been underground before (and lack basic mining knowledge), it looks really pathetic.
You should also know that I am from Europe and I have no work experience so this program is not well suited for me. Thank you for the comment though, I will keep it in mind
