MSF Guys
Question about SA internship before entering program. I am currently considering the MSF path to give myself an extra year to network, find an internship etc... Are you able to apply for SA IBD internships the summer before starting the program even if they are designed for juniors? Also, if anybody has done this on here, did you first shoot for FT positions, then when denied, turn around, apply to MSF programs, and tell recruiters you wanted to pursue an internship position instead and that you would be enrolling at X University next year for a MSF? I am worried I won't be considered for an internship if I have already been denied full-time employment.
Thanks.
BB banks have a structure SA recruiting process. Getting into this with an MSF is going to be slim odds. Smaller banks, maybe.
I'd try and find some unpaid internship work before you do the MSF and then just apply for FT positions. That or aim towards MM/Boutique banks that have less of a structured SA recruiting process.
Like ANT said above, BB will be tough. If you didnt get a FT position your probably not qualified anyway(not trying to be harsh). I have yet to run into any problems with boutiques(I missed out on MM recruiting season) but my future roomate secured a SA with a very solid MM firm(think Baird,HW,Jefferies)
Just to clear up some possible confusion: I am still a junior in UG. I'm just thinking back up plans. I have 3.8 at a non-target and will be doing an IBD internship for a small boutique this summer. I obviously want to shoot for BB for FT, but since they'll only have ~10 slots available after offering their SA, I know my chances are slim. That said, I think pursuing a MSF will boost my chances of reaching my end goal of working at a large MM or BB.
