MSF---Vanderbilt VS. BC

I am comparing the two MSF programs of Vanderbilt and Boston College. Both are my top priority.

Currently I have received the AD from Vandy, and still waiting for BC.

So I really want to get more insight view of the two programs, especially the placement of international student.

I have been heard that the career service of Owen is pretty good. Could anyone please kindly shed some light on this point? My big concern of the Vanderbilt MSF program is its 9-month (a little bit short), plus the location of Nashville may not be very convenient to find internship.

cabotmooseI am currently an undergrad at Vanderbilt who had to choose between coming here and going to BC. One of the major reasons I chose Vandy is because the career placement here is considerably better than BC. Granted the undergrad program is stronger than Owen nationally, there are still a ton of banks/financial firms who are on campus from all over the US.

Thank you for your suggestions, I have made my decision--Vandy. By the way, I'm a Chinese girl working in one of the Big Four auditing firm for 2years. I want to switch my career from accounting to corporate finance. It seems the MSF program in Vandy is more like CFA. On the other hand, the program in BC is not that related. Hope for more views~

Hi all,

I plan on enrolling into an MSF program this fall with the hope of breaking into IB. I have been accepted to Vanderbilt (no scholarship) and BC ($15,000) - I was leaning towards a definite Vandy before the scholorship, but wanted someone to weigh in just to give me more clarity on which school to attend. I aim on securing an IB job on the East Coast preferably, and think that Vandy has a more extensive network/better OCR than BC - I may be wrong though. Thanks a ton in advance.

Go to Vandy. Program is better developed. I love BC and think it is a top program, but they are more of a working professional program. Classes are at night. Vandy is during the day and their MBA program is T30.

I think Vandy is the better choose and brand. BC has a better location if you planned to work in NYC, but seeing that you are moving to Cali, go with Vandy. Congrats.

Is it true that Vandy has higher reputation than BC do in the U.S? In China, very few ppl knows Vandy. Weired.

I looked at the NYU program and its overly quant based...the degree says "masters in mathematical finance" or something and the syllabus is SUPER quant oriented...just seems like an overkill if you want to get into corporate finance/equity research.

the program seems more geared for derivatives and traders.

And the response to that is I didn't do an MBA because of limited experience i.e. 2 yrs and wanted to make the career change before the MBA..

so hopefully, do this and get into a good finance job and do that for a few years and then can always pursue an MBA

i've heard BC is decent...I dont mean necessarily getting into Goldman or Morgan but in general to break into the industry at a good firm.
