Need some advice, undergraduate Rutgers Business School.
Greetings WSO,
Next semester I will be transferring to RBS as a junior from CC.
1. I want to major in Finance, I am most passionate about that area of study. If I keep a solid GPA (3.5+) are there opportunities for undergrads at Rutgers for IB, S&T, PE, HF, PWM, Consulting, etc? How about BO, or MO jobs? I don't want to major in Finance and not be able to find a job.
2. Would it be a good Idea to major in Accounting? I know big 4 recruit at Rutgers and although it is not my first option, it might be a more practical option.
3. Does anybody know if big 4 recruit Finance majors out of undergrad? I wouldn't mind working for big 4 if I was on the consulting or advisory side.
P.S.
The only internship experience I have is a summer internship at a small local Accounting firm doing some audit work. When I am at Rutgers I plan on getting involved in more ECs.

Go the big 4 route. With a 3.5 GPA and some leadership activity (BAP), you should have a good shot at an internship and OCR. Good luck- I don't believe that it will be easy to get into ibanking from that school

I think that you should stick to studying accounting at rutgers if you want a shot at big 4. Finance is also irrelevant and would not help you with the CPA
I really dont think I would want a CPA. I am more interested in Finance but I want to know is it worth doing from Rutgers
Rutgers alum here, but from the school of engineering, not the business school. As far as I know, there are some kids that end up in IB every year (some of my engineering buddies included), but it isn't really from on-campus recruiting - mostly networking and kicking ass/being a top performer at Rutgers in general. The top students at state schools are every bit as impressive as the top students at top ivies, and arguably scrappier.
Big 4 is much easier from Rutgers than IB/consulting, mostly because the school is a target for their on-campus recruiting. I personally went the consulting route and now work in corporate strategy. Rutgers also has tons of MO/BO finance recruiting, so I wouldn't worry about being unemployed, I would worry about getting an FO job.
The main thing to keep in mind is that as long as you can commit to being one of the best students in your recruiting year, where you go to school isn't as big of a difference-maker as people make it out to be. I have never felt that going to Rutgers has held me back, and I work almost exclusively with former MBB consultants from Ivy schools + MIT/Stanford/Cal nowadays.
