Networking before MBA

Hey Guys,

I will be pursuing a top 10 MBA program in August to hopefully switch from quant finance to IB. Realizing an importance of netwroking in these fields, how should I prepare myself for school? I read a lot that I MUST network before going to school but I am not sure how to do it. Should I cold call? Send emails to alumni? Any ideas? Anyone done any networking before starting an MBA? Any help is really appreciated!

There's a big networking event in front of Federal Hall right now, it's dress down day, bring your hemp wear :D

Seriously, hit the pavement: cold call, email, scrape the alumni directory, I literally walked up and down Wall Street a few years ago pestering random people (even a doorman, to let me in the building).

This is doable, but you''re going to have to rebrand yourself and your network is step #1

Good luck

UFO,

Thank you for the pointers (Good one on Fed Hall haha). So do u think it is normal to just start bugging ppl from an alumni network? What should I ask? Do you have an example of what you emailed them? "So and so, I am a prospective student at XXX school and interested in IB." and then what? Also, is it not weird that I just get their info from somewhere and email them about job? How do i structure the email so it looks professional yet gets me the job?

Sorry, it is just all new to me.
