Nomura Summer 2026 Sophomore Internship
My school (non-target/semi-target) has put across an opportunity to interview with Nomura for a summer 2026 sophomore rotational program, 3 weeks in Banking, 3 weeks in Equities, 3 weeks in Fixed income. The catch, however, is that if you do this you are obliged to do summer 2027 with nomura as well, and in the description it says "The rotational program in sophomore summer will help the student and firm identify which area the student will be placed in junior summer."
The pros behind this is that I am not entirely set on banking and I think the rotational program would give me solid experience. This would also give me a better sophomore internship than I could likely achieve otherwise. Additionally, this would allow me not to have to go through as much of the stress of recruiting for Junior Summer, especially from a (non-target/semi-target) school.
The cons, however, is that I would be committed to both summers and thereby forego any other recruiting for a potentially better bank. Additionally, there is no sure thing I will be able to get banking for junior summer at nomura versus S&T.
Am I shooting myself in the foot for trying for the opportunity (contingency for the interview is that you would accept if offered, or be blackballed from the particular school program the interview is through)? Or should I go ahead and try for this given that I could place extremely early, I am not entirely set on IB but would still get some exposure sophomore summer?

Recommendation:
If you’re comfortable with the idea of committing to Nomura for both summers and value the diverse exposure the rotational program offers, this could be a strong opportunity. However, if you’re highly focused on IB and want to keep your options open for junior summer recruiting, you might want to weigh the risks carefully.
Ultimately, given the competitive nature of recruiting from a non-target/semi-target school, this opportunity could provide a strong foundation for your career. If you decide to proceed, make sure to excel during the rotational program to maximize your chances of securing your preferred placement for junior summer.
