NYU Stern transfer possibility?
right now I’ve been accepted to stern but they gave no aid leaving me to pay 80k a year. much of it would be financed through loans. the other option is Rutgers which is 15kish a year. what would you guys suggest? Is it possible to transfer to Stern after a year or two at RU? my family is urging me to choose stern, because it’s highly unlikely I’ll be able to get accepted there again as a transfer.
I don’t think anyone on this forum will be able to answer that well. Your best bet is to contact admissions, tell them your situation, and ask them if it would be possible to transfer. Previous threads have said transferring is almost impossible, but I doubt that. If your family is urging you to go to Stern, I would suggest doing that since your other option is a non-target. Plan to graduate a semester early, which will save you $40k and does not interfere with recruiting. Many Stern kids have done it.
If you want to do banking, you really don’t have to go to a target school. You will have loads of loans if you go to Stern. While recruiting will be easier from Stern it’s not impossible from non targets. I go to a non target and was able to get placed at an UMM bank (think Blair, Baird, Lazard) with a moderate amount of effort.)
But I have no idea about transferring. Did you apply to anywhere else?
I’ve applied to three Ivies, NYU, Mellon and Rutgers and Stevens. I’ve been accepted to Rutgers and Stevens and Stern. waitlisted at Mellon and rejected by the rest.
My hs gpa will end up being around 3.87 with 8 APs and a 1520 superscored SAT
I would go to stern the only issue I see is that I don’t see it being valued at 80k for a higher chance at success in IB. My family wants me to go, but I personally don’t value this undergrad at 320k. Maybe I’m wrong, but that’s just what I think.

Relax now and work hard at Rutgers, you'll be fine.
