NYU Stern vs UChicago vs Northwestern vs UCLA

Any help would be appreciated. Recently got off the waitlist at a couple of these schools and wanted to ask which ones would position myself best for a career in IB/consulting.

Stern or Chicago. Stern will be the best for IB recruiting plain and simple. However, Chicago is also a target. I would honestly go with whichever one you fit in with more. Chicago is more of a quirky vibe while NYU will be more pre-professional. Both schools will be rigorous so you will have your work cut out for you.

IMO uchicago is clearly a tier above the rest of those schools. Uchicago and NYU will be on a similar level for IB recruiting but the brand and prestige of uchicago has a much greater long term value.

that said I’ve heard uchicago is depressing as fuck and kids work to death there so try to make your college decision holistically.

All of these schools will place great but based on your interests and choices I would first toss out UCLA since it's a public and won't place as well as the others. From there, I would toss out Northwestern since you also got into UChicago and it's a notch above Northwestern University and places much better into IB and Consulting at the undergrad level for some reason. Between UChicago and Stern, I would choose schools based on fit, location, etc. Chicago will place more in the Midwest while the bulk of Stern's placement is in NYC. One thing to look out for at Chicago is the fact that Chicago has a reputation for being insanely difficult and lot's of students there have also said similar things. At the end of the day, the difference in prestige is pretty marginal between Chicago and Stern so you can't really go wrong with any option.

Friend in my group went to UC - 80% of people who do IB there end up in New York. Uchicago obviously dominates Midwest recruiting but the number of kids who stay in Chicago is just a fraction of the total number doing IB

Would also add that the difference in prestige between uchicago and stern is significant. uchicago is recognized internationally as one of the most elite and prestigious universities in the world lol. For IB recruiting they’re comparable but for general prestige it’s not even close

JFC there's so much more to choosing where you go to college than "IB placement"

You're equally likely to get a solid job coming out of Chicago, NYU, and Northwestern, but the former two are known to be miserable socially. Go to either school if you like it, but don't blindly pick it just because some people on here say it's marginally better.

Northwestern is much better if you want a traditional undergrad experience.

Edit: Not that Northwestern has anywhere near the social scene that UCLA does but there's a meainingful difference in how easy it is to get a good job.

If maximizing for IB recruiting NYU or UChicago are probably on top here. However, I go to UCLA and, knowing what I know now, would make the same choice 100x over. It's been the time of my life and has done me well (going to a top BB/EB). I'd hate to look back at my college years knowing I was miserable just for a marginally better chance to land an offer at a marginally better firm. I recommend you seriously consider where you might enjoy most.
