Post Banking Experience for B-School

Hey all,

With all the news about how b-school applications are surging, and with all the advice that's out there about getting a couple of extra years of experience before applying, what do you all think a good position to grab would be?

I mean, say you'd want to get 4,5 yrs before applying as some recommend... After 2 years of banking coming out of undergrad, or maybe 3 if you're lucky(or unlucky depending on how you look at it) where could one move so it wouldn't be seen as a step down or feel like a waste of time?

I've thought about maybe management consulting or like a boutique firm, or maybe like a VP of Finance-ship at a reasonably succesful startup. What are your thoughts? Thks.

I think so depending on where you're at. If you're at like Goldman, Morgan type of place, it means you were among the top of your analyst class to be offered a third year back.

What about GE? I hear they have a great 2 yr management program.
