Profile evaluation : MSc in Finance (my main target being Bocconi)
Hello,
I'm a french student who would like to apply for a MSc in Finance, and would like to know what are my chances, and how high should my GMAT score be (I'll take it in two-three month).
- Joint Bachelor'sDegree in Economics and Law at Toulouse School of Economics and University Toulouse 1 Capitole, with 13,75/20 (two semesters at 2.8-2.9, two semesters at 3.4, two semesters at 3.8), ranked 6/41 during the last year.
- Currently in my first year of Master's degree (Master 1) in Economics and Business Law (Joint degree, TSE - UT1 ), for the year 2017-2018.
- No relevant profesionnal experience or internships, only summers jobs since I am 15. (My father being a farmer, he demanded that I'd help him, and that I'd get money, during my BSc)
- Member of the Junior enteprise at TSE, and the school newspaper.
- Fluent in French and English
- Here is a copy of my resume : http://docdro.id/N72W4Ro (sorry if there are any mistakes, quickly translated it)
I don't konw how strong is my profile, pros are double degree (is studying law a downside to apply for MSc in finance ?), TSE (top 3 research center in Economics in Europe, partner school with Bocconi), cons are lack of experience, lack ofinternational exchanges and maybe GPA.
I'll apply to the top 5 Business Schools in France (HEC ESSEC ESCP EM Lyon EDHEC), but my main chances are for EM Lyon/EDHEC.
My main target is Bocconi, I think my profile won't be good enough for Rotterdam BS,and I don't think I can apply to SSE, since they're demanding a certain amouting of credits taken in Finance, which I didn't. Where else could I apply according to you ? Finally, if I manage to score around 700 at GMAT, do you think I have a shot for Bocconi ?
Thanks for reading.
PM me
Will do, but I have to wait two days (new member).
If you'll score >650 at GMAT you'll be fine
Poor advice. You would need at least 700 GMAT to compensate from the lack of experience. Bocconi is not easy at all to get into, especially as a foreign student with no experience - some friends did not manage to get in even with 700+ GMAT
By the way RSM is way easier to get into than Bocconi (requirements are lower and you are directly accepted if you meet them).
I'm Italian with a lot of friend (Italian, US, French etc.) in Bocconi for UG or PG as well. Bocconi care a lot for GPA/gmat score, experience is a minus. Good GPA , good GMAT and fine ECs are the way. Don't forget that you can pick up to 4 course; I have a friend that got an admit with 550 GMAT but 3.9/4 GPA for Management. AFC is another good course as well. Don't spread panic man
RSM's finance placement is shit all they have is a decent place on the ft ranking, I wouldnt reccommend it under any conditions, I literary know 2 dudes who went for a second masters to a better school after graduating from there
Echo this. They're fine for the management track, partnership with MBB and AT Kearney
What would you recommend for Finance in europe (outside UK) ?
SSE, Bocconi, HEC ESCP ESSEC, Em lyon ? EDHEC ?
All of these, plus Polytechnic of Milan in Italy, SciencesPO in Paris, the Germans one (Manheim, WHU, Goethe Frankfurt, EBS), Tillburg in The Netherlands, St Gallen and HEC Lausanne in Switzerland etc. You have a lot of choice, everything depend on how you'll score at GMAT and what you want to do after
Thanks for the insisghts.
Where would you rank EM Lyon and EDHEC among those ?
Where do you want to work? France? Europe? London? Frankfurt? Milan? If France, Em Lyon > EDHEC, if Eu/London EDHEC > EM Lyon Imho. As said, it depend on your future gmat score and on where do you want to work/live
Don't know for what he got monkey shit, his judgement is totally on point in France EDHEC is a joke in the eyes of snobby dudes fromHEC/ESSEC/Polytechnique/SciencePo. But its anyway quite a good program content-wise, but imo more like s&t/risks than ib
From this basket: 1. HEC 2. Bocconi
That's correct. This idiot doesn't know anything. Even SSE's average GMAT is 700+!!!
