Profile for top european b-scool ?
hey everybody so I am looking at Masters in Management in London and Paris. I was looking more specifically at at LBS, LSE, Imperial in London and HEC, ESSEC, ESCP in Paris. I will graduate with a Bachelor of Engineering with a minor in management from McGill University. I have a 3.35 GPA because of my first year (around 3.0) but without couting my first year I had a GPA of 3.5/4.0 during the last two years. My two internships are in hydraulic engineering consulting (small firm), and project management in a construction firm (large international firm). I lived in a couple of different countries and speak 4 languages. I am currently preparing the GMAT and so far looking for a 680 according to my latest tests. I was wondering if I am aiming to high or if I have a decent profile for those schools. Cheers
I might be totally wrong with this because I have little experience with MBAs in Europe.
But my perception is that US students are great at crafting essay for the sole reason that it is an important part of the application process. Therefore, they take on leadership position and do extracurricular stuff that they can talk about during the application process.
European students are great at doing what they are told to do because that's the important part of the application process (grades). They don't really think outside the box because they are never required to.
Therefore, you might be better of applying to US b-schools. Crafting an amazing story about how you learned 4 language and lived in different countries will make a b-school recruiter absolutely eat up your story, while as a European recruiter might say: "How much do I care about your language skills etc.. if you only had a average GPA". Also, in the US there are a lot less people with language skills than in Europe. If I was you I would play to my strengths and try US b-schools before trying European ones.
I could totally be wrong with this though. There might be so little US/Canadian students applying to European b-schools that you will be immediately accepted no matter what your stats.
Like I said, I might have no clue at all and am sure other people can help you a lot more.
I though exactly the opposite since i am looking to switch from engineering to management, I am considering not MBA programs but MSc I though european b-school are looking for more well rounded people while american b-school Ivy league and other prestigious unis are looking for people with top gpa. There is a much wider choice of management graduate studies in Europe than in the US. I couldnt find that many Which schools would think I should apply to ? Am I really too focused on my GPA, I mean its above average and in engineering and especially at McGill the level is pretty insanely high... and Hopefuly my GMAT will be really high... Does anybody know a good source to have some stats about what are typical profile of students admitted in top b-school master program in London ? I mean top because my parents wont pay if they do not think its worth it ...
