Prospective (non-traditional profile) Applicant & (re-applicant) to Graduate Schools (US/Europe) - inputs requested

Hi All, I'm new to WSO and have been religiously reading/following the business school/GMAT forum. Pretty interesting discussions all. Wanted to request some inputs and perspective on my profile and on the way to go - any and all suggestions welcome. Be as candid as you will on my prospects (for a FT MBA).

i'm a journalism graduate from University of Delhi, followed by a master's in human resources (not sure why i did that). worked in transfer pricing advisory with a Big4 firm thereafter followed by a short stint with a manufacturing company. last couple years, been dabbling on my own in independent consulting - thought i had a million dollar idea that's now bombed. :( looking @ returning to mainstream work and also preparing for round 2 applications.

Applied to W/B/K last year and didn't get through. the Gmat's a 700. grades in above courses none-too-stellar. decent extra-curriculars.

wanted to move into strategy consulting - but they wouldn't take me @ 34/35. Next best bet - looking @ getting out of transfer pricing and moving into general management. i'm 33. so effectively last shot at FT program (and i say this @ the height of my optimism). reason being - @ this point in time only a top school (US/Europe) would help bring together (the disparate parts of) what i have done until now (journalism/HR/transfer pricing/indep. consulting) - and set me up for the next 30 years. and would want a good RoI as well (not looking @ programs like M.Fin. or MSx etc.) realistically speaking (and based on discussions with consultants) that looks difficult.

kind of lost for directions. grateful for any inputs guys! really appreciate.

Looking forward Ash
