Question about starting businesses
So I've been mowing other peoples' lawns for around 10 years now, not as a business, just for extra cash. Well now I have a son and instead of getting a job that's only gonna pay me minimum wage while giving me shit hours, I want to officially start a lawn care business for the summer (making business cards/flyers/etc. right now). I already have a decent amount of clients but I'd like to make some real money now.
My question is: How do business schools look at a business like this? I mean, I'd think that it wouldn't be as impressive as another untypical business for a student like a t-shirt company/liquor distillery/minor record label. The reason I'm trying to start this is because I've already got good lawn care equipment and I don't have enough money/contacts to get startup money for another business. But when schools look at this do they just tend to look at revenue/profit? number of employees? how your company expands? or some other factor?
I think it's just as impressive as the other businesses you mentioned, especially if it makes you a good living. Running a business is hard and gives you great skills that are difficult to learn otherwise; a smart recruiter will know that what the business does matters very little in this regard.
"a"typical, not untypical
hedge it with a winter-time snow plow/de-icing business if climate forces
