Question regarding work experience for admissions

Hey guys and gals-

I graduated with a degree in biology from a top LAC and have been doing biomedical research at 2 top research universities for the past couple years. I got into medical school but have really been more interested in business/macroscopic problems (in healthcare and other sectors) and less interested in direct patient care. I'm currently looking for a new job that's more business-oriented, but would ultimately like to use an MBA to make the transition. My question is this: would a background that is mostly made up of biomedical research be sufficient work experience for MBA admissions? Could I successfully apply this year with that background while I'm starting a new job? I have a very good GPA at a top school, great scores on standardized tests I've taken (SAT, MCAT - I will do very well on the GMAT/GRE).

Thanks for your help.
