Real Estate Broker vs Investment Banker
Deciding my future, as a real estate broker or investment banker. I still have college to decide, but as a high school senior I have narrowed by two future careers to these two. Schools I am considering to attend are, Wisconsin - Madison, Indiana - Bloomington, Illinois - Urbana, Texas - Austin. They all have great real estate programs and decent IB programs, I am also applying to Northwestern and Michigan, because they have a great IB program. My chances at these schools are very high.
Looking down the line in my future, do I become a real estate broker in a hot market area or work as a banker. I have a family member doing really well as a Real Estate broker, but do not personally know an Investment Banker. Any tips, advice, or comments on the two working fields, in terms of success and what I should do in college to help myself in either of these fields. I'll be honest here, I have trying to find a job that pays really well and am willing to work for it and these two interest me. Again any tips appreciated, I don't mind harsh comments either, just need some advice. Thank you!
These two careers could not be any more different at a junior level. Spend some more time learning about what each job entails. You also might want to look into other areas of real estate, if that is a specific interest for you.
All of the schools you are looking at will provide solid career options in finance, if you get top grades.
You don't need to go to college to become a Real Estate Broker. Colleges that have Real Estate programs are typically geared towards Commercial Real Estate which entail the buying, selling, and leasing of commercial properties. On the other hand, Real Estate Brokers deal with residential real estate. There is a huge difference.
