Recruiting for infra from MBA
Hi all, I will be attending H/S this fall. I have MBB experience and a year of PE. I’m interested in infrastructure investing, particularly with a focus on digital infra, but interested in all aspects.
Is there anyone that has recruited out of MBAs for infra funds? Would love to chat if so, or hear any advice on navigating this.
Based on the most helpful WSO content, infrastructure funds often don't heavily recruit MBA grads, as many promote from within and have mid-to-senior level professionals who never pursued an MBA. However, your MBB and PE experience could position you well, especially if you demonstrate a strong interest in a specific subsector like digital infrastructure.
Here are some actionable tips: 1. Target Specific Funds: Many MM/UMM shops focus on niche subsectors within infrastructure. Research funds that align with your interest in digital infrastructure and tailor your story to their strategy. 2. Leverage Networking: Post-MBA recruiting is heavily network-driven. Use the extensive alumni network at H/S and reach out to professionals in the infra space for informational chats. 3. Highlight Your Experience: Your MBB and PE background can be a strong asset. Emphasize your strategic thinking and deal experience, particularly if it aligns with infrastructure themes. 4. Prepare for Pedigree Emphasis: Some megafund infrastructure programs may still prioritize pedigree, so your H/S MBA will be a significant advantage here. 5. Join Relevant Groups: Look into industry groups or associations with a focus on infrastructure investing. This can help you build connections and stay updated on trends.
