Rejected From Grad School

So I made a rookie mistake and hastily applied to only one grad school for spring 2021. Subsequently got denied due to larger than normal applications and have to wait an academic year to reapply.

Looks like I will not be attending grad school for another year due to this, so I'm wondering if this has happened to anyone else and how they coped? Tbh I was pretty upset when I heard the news since I had a good candidate profile that supposedly would have gotten accepted during a non-COVID year.

I'm thinking of studying for the GMAT and attempt to crush it in hopes of appealing more to the admissions team and to possibly apply to more programs. Any other tips or advice to not feel worthless when seeing other posts about people getting accepted?

Are you applying to MBA programs or to other graduate programs? If so, which ones? Are they aimed at early career applicants? What do you intend to do after your graduate?

There are a few basic reasons applicants are rejected from any grad school:

  1. They weren't competitive in terms of academics, experience, and or fit.
  2. They failed to present their qualifications well.
  3. They were qualified and did a decent job and were simply a victim of the numbers and intense competition.
  4. A combination of the above.

FYI, it is rarely #3 alone. It's impossible for me to say if raising your GMAT will be enough to make the difference because I haven't seen your application.. As you realize, applying to one program, especially if it is highly competitive, is not a great idea.

Best,

Linda
