Rejecting a Master Offer/Deferring a Master Offer (UK)

I am unsure about whether or not I want to go into a masters straight after my undergraduate degree as I am worried that I do not have enough work experience. Ideally, I would have a couple more internships before going into my masters in order to improve my profile as a candidate going into IB or consulting, post-masters. Thus, I will be applying to off-cycle internships for the year after my BSc, while also applying to masters as a back up, in case I don't get any off-cycle. Now, here are the resulting questions:

If I got both an off-cycle and offer to a masters, I was wondering whether it would be possible to defer the masters offer (in the UK - MiM or MiF) to the following year. I.e being accepted for the 2021 intake but deferring the offer to the 2022 intake.

If that is not possible, I would have to reject the masters offer to do the off-cycle, and apply for the following masters intake. However, if you reject an offer, does that seriously hamper your chances of getting into that masters the following year?

Any thoughts or comments would be helpful.

  1. Yes, they should normally allow you to defer for 1 year, but you will have to pay the deposit

  2. Don't know, but don't see why it would - you could briefly mention in your personal statement (when reapplying) that you wanted to gain more experience before doing your MSc

If you tell them you want to defer because you got an off-cycle at a BB or MBB, they have no reason to not let you defer. What they care about in the end is making sure everyone places well, and you make their lives easier by doing off-cycles prior to starting. From personal experience, a few people at my master's (Target UK) had deferred a year.
