Hi guys,
I'm a senior in high school, struggling to decide between undergraduate b-schools to attend next year. I've already narrowed down to my two favorite schools, UMich Ross and ND Mendoza.
I've spoken to a lot of students, teachers, and my college counselor, and all the advice I receive is very lifestyle based and not business specific. General consensus seems to be that Michigan will be a lot more fun, and Notre Dame will offer better liberal arts with a smaller community.
If any current students, alumni, or professionals give me some industry-specific advice, I would greatly appreciate it!
Here are the main points: -Price of tuition + R&B will be almost the same for both schools -Location/distance is also similar, I'm from the NYC region -Dream career would be working with startups, possibly as a consultant or VC if I can get into a VC firm. This means I will also be minoring or majoring in computer science outside of the b-school -I have a strong interest in entrepreneurship -I hope to intern in either NYC or SF during my summers, and do not plan on staying in the midwest after graduation -I also have the options of Stern, Kenan-Flagler, and Marshall. Ross and Mendoza are my top two choices but I am still willing to hear information about all of these schools.

Didn't go to either school but I think there was literally just a post on USC vs. Mendoza a couple of weeks ago which should give you everything you need to know. While I don't think Ross is mentioned in it, it has been mentioned elsewhere and if nothing else it should give you a good overview of Mendoza if it's just between those two. Been to Ann Arbor a bunch of times and so based on what I read of Mendoza I'd pick UM any day.
Go to the USC vs ND thread for more details, but I think this is a no brainer for Ross.
If you have any specific questions about ND, feel free to PM me. I don't go there but know a LOT of kids that go there and can pass questions along.
As an ND alumnus (graduated from Mendoza) I am biased, but here are my 2 cents:
The school spirit and lifestyle at ND were fantastic, at least for me. Work hard, play hard mentality, best tailgate parties, awesome house/dorm/outdoor parties, Fever (the only club in SB but b/c everyone goes there this place will be the most fun), really cooperative/close student body, brand new dorm buildings, South Bend is CHEAP, various athletic events if you're into sports,
If you succeed as a business major (graduate with a 3.7+) and network correctly you will have no problem landing a good banking/consulting job. There are various club opportunities to get involved in (i.e. Student International Business Council) that will enhance your chances of networking and landing an internship/full-time offer. I do think that Ross is considered, on average, more of a "target" school for some banks, but the number of Seniors from Notre Dame that end up going to banking (NYC offices) recently is impressive. Hence, if you're smart and get good grades at ND, you'll still end up with a top job, have a blast your 4 years and build a lifelong network
I'm not too familiar with the student life at Ross, but I think you should decide based on where you will fit in better as a person during the next 4 years. Career-wise, Ross ON AVERAGE will have an edge over ND in terms of banking recruiting, but if you're a good student then this is irrelevant.

Agree with everything you said except for the work hard, play hard. There's very, very little "play" compared to most schools (especially Ross).
I'll also add that you can easily day trip Chicago for networking by taking the south shore line (3 hours each way) if Chicago is your goal. From Ross, it'd have to be a flight or overnight.
