Stay back for Wharton?

I am currently a high school senior in Canada with a 94% average. I have no problems getting into the top Canadian business schools such as Ivey, Queens, and Schulich. However, USA business schools recently caught my interest. I am wondering if it is worth it to stay back a year, do the SATs and apply for schools like Wharton...

I am confident in my extra-curricular activities and have scored high on practice SATs.

Cost-wise schools in the USA will be a lot more expensive...

so high school right?

I would say go to school in Canada, kick ass, and if you are still interested in Wharton by then, transfer. It will save you 2 yrs of loans.

At Ivey/Queen's (where you are interested in I imagine) all the global banks recruit. Many even recruit for their NY offices. I would say your only disadvantage with going to Canadian school is working in the U.S. afterwards, but if you do a good job you should be fine.

Solidarityyou won't really get a job in NYC if you go to a Canadian school but it's always possible if you want to work in Toronto

^Fool.

OP, please keep in mind that the majority of the people here (including myself) are not experienced enough to help you make important life decisions like choosing where to go for college. A VP at a large IB i interned in went to something no where near a target(not top 100), worked in the industry, then went to McMaster/UToronto/McGill (hiding it for privacy reasons) for his MBA . Right after that, she got a gig at a BB in Toronto, then was transferred to HQ in new york city.

Anything is possible if you work hard enough. If I didnt respect her privacy, I wouldve given you the complete details which wouldve made it even more inspiring!

seekingalpha2Not worth it...stay in Canada...top performance will get you wherever you want to go.

Not into the US BB's, and that extra year you stay back for in high school will allow you to focus on your SAT's and then apply to Wharton. Once you get into Wharton, you're extremely more likely to land a better job than you would at Ivey. I don't want to limit my future by going into a Canadian business school, lets all be honest

Go to the Canadian school, get a 3.9+ GPA and look to transfer after 1 year. I am not sure if Wharton will require you to take the SAT--you need to do research.

Do you know how low the transfer rate into Wharton is? You have a better chance applying as a freshman than a sophomore. PM me your information Say What, I'd like to stay in contact with you.

I wouldn't take a year off just to get into a specific college. Check out this article by Harvard admissions: http://www.admissions.college.harvard.edu/apply/time_off/index.html The article is long, but one part of it says: "No one should take a year off simply to gain admission to a particular college." I got rejected from Wharton, Harvard, Yale, Princeton, and Dartmouth regular decision. Now I'm going to try to transfer to Wharton from the Waterloo/Laurier Double Degree. The point is, the year you lose by not going to college is not worth it. That's like $50,000 potential salary given up.
