Syracuse University worth for ib, high finance?

Prospective student here. Looking to join Syracuse uni for the fall a freshman. Finance major at Whitman, can someone help me by telling the rate of IB placement for Syracuse University? if I want to get a headstart, can you please let me know what funds, clubs or things I should look out for? I have heard of the orange value fund, which is good for IBplacement. I also got into IU Kelly and Florida State University. Kelly costing 60,000 and Florida State costing 40, I also have 90,000 for Boston University and 90,000 for SMU as well which were too expensive so really the only decent one  which is 30,000 for Syracuse University. Do you think that cost and value is worth it for the ROI especially in terms of finance job placement high finance? Any help would be greatly appreciated. I just want to know if it is possible and I know that Syracuse is not a target or even a semi target, but it shouldn’t be that bad right? if it is possible for some people, I can do it. If you are aware, how can I increase my chance of getting into the orange value fund?

Based on the most helpful WSO content, Syracuse University, particularly the Whitman School of Management, is not considered a target or semi-target school for investment banking (IB) or high finance. However, it is possible to break into IB from Syracuse with the right strategy, though it will require significant effort and proactive networking.

Key Considerations for Syracuse University:

  1. IB Placement Rate: Syracuse is not known for strong IB placement. While some students do make it into IB, the numbers are relatively low compared to target schools. Success often depends on individual effort, networking, and leveraging alumni connections.

  2. Orange Value Fund: The Orange Value Fund is a standout opportunity at Syracuse for students aiming for IB or high finance. It provides hands-on experience managing real money, which is highly valued by employers. Gaining admission to this fund can significantly boost your resume and chances of breaking into IB. To increase your chances:

    • Maintain a high GPA.
    • Get involved in finance-related clubs and activities early.
    • Network with current members and alumni of the fund.
    • Demonstrate a strong interest in finance and investment through internships or personal projects.
  3. Cost and ROI: At $30,000, Syracuse is a more affordable option compared to Boston University ($90,000) and SMU ($90,000). However, IU Kelley ($60,000) and Florida State University ($40,000) might offer better ROI for IB placement:

    • IU Kelley: Kelley has a strong reputation for IB placement, especially through its Investment Banking Workshop. If IB is your goal, Kelley is a better choice despite the higher cost.
    • Florida State University: While not a target school, FSU has a growing reputation and is more affordable than Kelley. It may be a viable option if cost is a significant concern.

Recommendations:

  • If your primary goal is IB or high finance, IU Kelley is the strongest option among the schools you mentioned, even at a higher cost.
  • If cost is a major factor, Syracuse University can work, but you will need to be extremely proactive. Focus on joining the Orange Value Fund, networking aggressively, and securing internships early.
  • Consider the long-term ROI. While Syracuse is cheaper upfront, Kelley’s stronger IB placement could lead to higher earnings and faster debt repayment.

Ultimately, breaking into IB from Syracuse is possible, but it will require more effort compared to attending a school like Kelley. If you’re confident in your ability to hustle and take advantage of opportunities like the Orange Value Fund, Syracuse could be a reasonable choice.
