Take the GMAT this very moment?
I'll be doing the standard IB track with a hopeful 2 years in PE before b-school.
I have time to take the GMAT now but given that it expires in 5 years, isn't the 2 year IB, 2 years PE track cutting it close to GMAT expiration date? There is no guarantee that I'll get PE and I might have to work an additional analyst year before leaving and since I want to get into PE perhaps after b-school, I would have to have some PE experience before an MBA. Has this expiration date ever been a problem?
Not sure about timing of all that, but bear in mind that you'd be applying while you're still at the PE shop, presumably finishing up your last year. So if you're starting work summer 2010, you either finish your IB stint summer of 2012 or 2013 and your PE stint 2014 or 2015. But, you'd be applying Fall/Winter 2013 or 2014.
2+2= 4
no 2+2 is a harvard program
and I'm sure harvard can confirm for you that 2+2= 4
i am debating whether or not i should do it as well. i have a pretty easy course load this semester, so i could take out 1 hr per day over the next couple of months for it.
out of curiosity, what GMAT score out of 2 years BB + 2 years MM PE would make you very competitive in HBS / GSB / Wharton? Would 720+ do it?
Associates from my group who did BB after ugrad, by the way, all resoundingly agreed that I should take the GMATs while in school. they claimed (and i agree with them to an extent) that you lose your test-taking sharpness after you don't "study" for 2 or 3 years.

no i just called harvard and asked them "what is 2+2" and they said it's harvard MBA program for juniors in college.
well, then maybe you should reconsider going to harvard
If that's your desired path, I would suggest taking the GMAT now. You'll have a lot more time to study now than you will once you start, and it will show in your score. I just took it last week and definitely benefited from the month or so of preparation.

If I were you I would take it now after some brief studying, and then take it again later in a few years if needed. Give yourself some options.
I've heard through gmat prep's that top bschools won't look down on you taking it two times.
