So as a bit of background, I am currently in the process of applying as a transfer student to a large list of schools. I think that I have a strong shot at being accepted into Amherst, Williams College, Columbia School of General Studies, and UT McCombs. While I love the idea of going to a LAC and have heard fantastic things about the alumni base, the downside to Amherst / Williams is that they likely wont take any online coursework, which is basically all I have taken so far. After checking with UT, I could potentially have up to 60 semester hours of credit work transfer. Money is not an issue as far as tuition costs are concerned, but forgone opportunity costs are an issue.
So what would you do? 4 whole years at a top LAC or 2 years at UT in one of the funnest cities in the country? Would attending UT for only 2 years be shooting myself in the foot as far as gaining valuable internship opportunities go given the more competitive environment? Is the alumni base and career opportunies present at a top LAC worth the extra years of my life spent there? Im not asking WSO to make these choices for me, but I would love to hear your opinions. Thanks.
Sadly lac might be a safer bet. Opportunity cost is a phantom term especially if you exit badly from UG and need to rebrand
Thats a fair point. Another issue I see with UT McCombs is that if you are not in the Business Honors Program, it appears to be significantly more difficult to land more prestigious work outside of oil & gas. It seems like an easy sector to get pigeon holed into
