Also curious about these programs in general.
Agree on UCLA being better than USC. Definitely plenty of funds that will recruit out of UCLA and it's one of the best options on the West Coast... though obviously Palo Alto gets preference over everyone out here.

Aside from PIMCO though, which west coast buyside shops recruit out of ucla or haas? Capital group and dodge&cox pretty much only hire from stanford and hbs. I think dimensional fund (david booth's fund) hires some ucla people. Not entirely sure though.

I thought DFA only took PhD's for research positions.
DFA hires a few MBAs for research jobs. Not entirely sure what the exact numbers are though.

Concur with the above...I've covered some PM's & analysts on the left coast who are graduates from UCLA Anderson. I can only recall one coming out of USC Marshall. Just my .02
