UCLA Anderson ($$$) vs LBS
Hello all
I have admits from UCLA with a sizeable scholarship (The scholarship at UCLA covers 60% of the fees.) and from LBS. I am interested in IB
Location is not a preference although I would like to be in US so UCLA helps there. But I am more interested in getting into the best possible firm and my career is the first priority.
LBS arguably has a better brand and a good finance school but coming back to US is not guaranteed.
Do you think UCLA also offers similar opportunities as LBS in terms of career ?
I don't mind working in UK for few years before transferring to US but the cost worries me
and on the other hand if UCLA can provide me similar opportunities and with scholarship seems like a great choice but brand wise LBS > UCLA so let me know your opinion
I have Bachelors and Masters degree in Computer science , although I currently work in a prop trading/market making firm in NYC. Been with the firm for about 5 years now. I am an Indian Citizen and currently on work Visa in US.
Please help me decide.
Anderson is a target school for IB. If you want to be in the US definitely go to UCLA.
Seen this question before ;) If you want west coast IBD long term, go to UCLA. LBS is good but the UK Visa situation is a challenge for many.
Yeah posting here based on your suggestion actually on gmatclub so that I can get advice from a wider audience
go to UCLA and recruit for SF IB. You should be fine and save a lot of money. Remember that COL is also higher in London.
Do all top tier IBs at SF hire at UCLA - I heard from current students that last summer Goldman made no offers at all for summer interns but of course firms like BAML made a lot of offers
LBS is the more prestigious option
yes defn but is it worth the $ differential and eventually can I come back to US ?
Take the $$$$$.
For future reference, money is a good deciding factor anytime you have a decision that isn't obvious. Over time, meaningful amounts of money become the primary Decision Point for many types of career related decisions.
Thanks for the advice! I am definitely thinking the same way but question is will I have similar exposure to the same top tier firms at UCLA that I will get at LBS - and another question is does school brand matter later in your career as well or just for your first job
I have a feeling top tier firms won't want people that weren't already at gold/platinum level firms beforehand, so I wouldn't worry about it. I would also be worried about the LBS Visa situation if you aren't a British citizen.
I've worked in investment banking for 5 years in SF/Palo Alto and have not yet met anybody here with an MBA from LBS. I have several friends with an MBA from LBS, but they all work in London.
