UCSB Econ & Accounting degree for finance industry

Hey all,

I'm wondering if anyone can give me some advice about if UCSB Econ & Accounting Degree (not 2 separate degrees, it is just 1) will give me a good shot at breaking into the finance industry? Internships? Please let me know, and if you have any other California schools in mind I would greatly appreciate a recommendation. Thanks!

Hey there!

Based on the most helpful WSO content, an Economics & Accounting degree can certainly provide a solid foundation for breaking into the finance industry. It's not just about the degree, but also about the skills and knowledge you acquire during your studies.

Here are a few tips to boost your chances:

  1. Internships: Internships are a great way to gain practical experience and make connections in the industry. Look for opportunities in investment banking, private equity, or other finance-related fields.

  2. Networking: Networking is key in the finance industry. Attend industry events, join finance clubs at your university, and don't be afraid to reach out to alumni or professionals in the field.

  3. WSO Courses: Consider enrolling in some of the WSO Academy courses. They offer a range of programs from Excel Modeling to Investment Banking Interview Prep that could be beneficial.

  4. Additional Certifications: Consider obtaining additional certifications such as the CFA (Chartered Financial Analyst) or CPA (Certified Public Accountant) which can make you more attractive to potential employers.

Remember, it's not just about where you go to school, but what you do while you're there. Make the most of your time at UCSB, and you'll be well on your way to a successful career in finance.

As for other California schools, USC and UC Berkeley have strong reputations in the finance industry. But remember, it's not just about the name of the school, but the effort you put into your studies and the experiences you gain.

Keep swinging for the fences!
