UT Austin McCombs Undergraduate Degree

Hello, I am a high school senior who was accepted into the McCombs school of business and it is where I will be attending next fall. I was accepted into Undecided Business, but not in the Business Honors Program. How does McCombs stack up against other undergraduate business programs (I am asking WSO instead of Google because it is filled with industry experience unlike US News and World Report)? I know that I will have strong traction in the Houston/Austin area but what about nationally? How do their finance and/or MIS programs stack up? Does it make a big difference that I did not get into BHP - should I apply for it sophomore year? Overall, how is McCombs?

I know that some of these questions are really broad and that is because I am really open to any and all information and advice about McCombs and UT Austin.

Thank You!!

I graduated from McCombs a few years back.

  • The undergrad program is generally top 10. Peers are UNC, UVA, USC, and Michigan.
  • In terms of geography, all undergraduate programs (minus Wharton) are relatively regional in nature. There is a batch of kids that go to NY each year for banking, consulting, etc. but it's not terribly large. No idea how this compares to other programs.
  • You're not limited if you're not in BHP, but it is a big plus if you are (from my experience).
  • MIS is super strong, and finance is very solid (most popular major within McCombs).
