Washington and Lee vs Umiami

I recently got into Miami and W&L. I got into the foot fellow honors program at Miami and have a full ride while at W&L I would have to pay full price. I was looking at placement into IBD and it looks like W&L is good but Miami seems to be mostly corporate finance rolls? Any insight on both schools? Thanks

Based on the WSO Dataset, Washington and Lee (W&L) has a strong track record for placing students into Investment Banking Division (IBD) roles. It's noted for having on-campus recruitment opportunities with major banks, where firms like Goldman Sachs and J.P. Morgan conduct first-round interviews directly on campus. Several students from W&L have received offers from both bulge bracket and middle-market firms, indicating a solid pipeline into IBD roles.

On the other hand, the University of Miami, especially with the distinction of being part of the Foote Fellows Honors Program and having a full ride, presents a unique opportunity. While the University of Miami might traditionally be seen as more aligned with corporate finance roles, the financial support and honors program could provide you with resources and networking opportunities to carve a path into IBD. Being in a honors program often means access to dedicated career services, alumni networks, and potentially more personalized guidance on securing internships and jobs in your desired field.

Given the financial aspect, the full ride at the University of Miami is a significant consideration. Graduating without debt could give you more flexibility in your career choices post-graduation. It's also worth exploring how active the University of Miami's alumni network is in investment banking and whether there are recent success stories of graduates breaking into IBD.

In summary, while W&L has a proven track record for IBD placements, the University of Miami offers a financially advantageous position and potential opportunities through the Foote Fellows Honors Program. It would be beneficial to reach out to alumni or current students from both programs to get a more nuanced understanding of each school's strengths and how they align with your career goals.
