What opportunities OUTSIDE of IB/Trading does an MBA afford you?
Lets say I've got 3-4 years of work under my belt at a BB, but don't want to put up with the hours of an associate position in IB or the uncertainty of a trading position (especially since what interests me most is corporates and vanilla CDS, which will soon go the way of equity).
What other opportunities are there that still pay well, but offer some semblance of a work/life balance and some job security?
You can get into a-) VC* b-) corporate finance in a Fortune 25 firm* c-) Marketing* d-) Strategy Roles in a multinational* e-) Consulting* f-) and lots of other opportunities The ones with * can offer roughly the same base pay as banking(120K post MBA) but no or negligible bonus(except VC). Most of those above offer job security as well. The assumption is a top line MBA..
I'm currently working as a computer analyst very much interested in switching career to finance. Hoping to get some Private Equity/Investments experience so that I can start an international investments firm. Is it even possible to get an MBA from a top-50 MBA and get experience from mid-tier investment banks/hedge funds before starting anything of my own? Or may be I'm confused?
