When to start internship before applying?

I have the opportunity to start an internship prior to starting b-school apps. The partners at a PE firm have given me flexibility in when I can start; I'd like to start as late as possible while still being able to put it on my apps. I'm planning on matriculating in 2015 for the 2017 class. When would the best time to start this internship be?

Hi Lazar87 I'm game, I'll jump int, but having said that, I am not sure I follow the question -- why not start now so you can get some experience under your belt. That way you will be able to have a greater impact and some stories that will illustrate your smarts and leadership.

Or am I missing something here?
