White House --> ?????
A guy from my high school 2 years younger had a carpet cleaning business his freshman year of college (went to a very non-target). Got a job cleaning the floors of Trump Tower in 2014. He saw an application to intern at Trump Tower and took the opportunity (summer 2015). Fast forward a bit and he is now working on Trumps campaign. Trump wins and this guy is given a position in the White House as one of the highest ranking official's staff assistants.
My question to you WSO is....
What are this guys exit opps? If one was staff assistant to a high ranking official (cabinet), where do you go from there? Harvard Law/MBA? Straight to MF PE/HF? VC? Congress?
I really have no idea, but am curious. Anyone know someone whose been there? Let a monkey know!
The main exit opp from this administration is straight to hell.
so edgy, really going out on a limb with the trump hate
Inside the Beltway, staff asst. at the WH, being the lowest level of political appointee, is just not very prestigious. I've seen a lot of ppl going to law school coming from these jobs. If it's in the West Wing, you rubbed shoulders with VIPs, brought POTUS his morning coffee every day, etc., more doors would open. Still not an instant ticket to greatness though.
When I left the Reagan Admin. in 1986 as a special asst/speechwriter -- one rung up the ladder from staff asst. -- I got an editorial job at a NYC policy think tank and thought I was damn lucky to get it. However, I was friends with a guy about 10 years older, who'd left the Ford Admin. from the same level of job and got hired as David Rockefeller's personal asst. In that case I think it was school/club affiliation that got him the opportunity rather than experience in the political job per se.
There's a special program placing hot shots from various backgrounds into low-level, but important and high profile political jobs, which has excellent exit placement. It's called the White House Fellowships. Best government program by far for private sector exit opps.
