Year abroad

Hi guys. I'm currently thinking of taking a study year abroad as part of my economics degree. I am considering working in very competitive fields such as S&T, consulting, asset management etc. Would the year abroad worsen my chances of getting into these jobs or would it have no effect. Also would I still apply for spring weeks in my second year at uni just like everyone else on the 4 year courses?

Thanks if you can offer advice
