I DID IT!!!

I did it!!!

For those who are not in the know here is a quick recap. I was offered a FO BB in AM last month. It was then quickly rescinded for a genuinely stupid reason. Then last week I got a call asking me to come in to talk to a panel for one last shot to show my qualifications. Well I left the interview an hour ago and I am proud to announce I have finally broke into an FO role! I know I said it was PWM but I was just protecting my ID.

I gave the best interview/argument I have ever gave in my life this morning. They grilled me on behavioral stuff and my u5. One guy asked me, "What are your 3 biggest weakness?" I gave my answers and he then countered with ," Ok what is your 6th?" After that I gave one walk thru on excel and was asked to go meet the team. They then called me in and offered me the job.

I have so many people I want to thank. First WSO your guides helped me so much and made me ace this important interview. Thanks to the entire community, Y'all have helped me round myself out to be an attractive candidate. I owe the WSO community a lot. I have been trying for 3 years to break in and had only 3 interviews from banks. I was doing something very wrong. I have now been a member since February and now have an amazing career and future. I come from an embarrassing non-target with an OK GPA and zero internships and just beat out some very tough competition. Credit goes to everyone who made me better.

I want to single out a few users. First, Human...Dude you have been a mentor to me and I want to say thank you. I will buy you a drink when I go to NYC along with any other WSO user. Short the World it was the resume you edited that got me in the door in the first place. Manbearpig you gave me a one liner that made me stand out. Monty09,UFO have been very supportive too and took all guidance to heart. Flake for his Q&A post (I networked the same way you did) and for always making me think twice before posting some dumbass question or comment (same for blastoise and swagon)

I do not know if I will be on WSO as much when I first start. I will have to get use to the new demands and hours. However, I do want to give back to the community. For any WSO user in Texas know you have a friend in Houston. Thanks once again ...peace.

P.S. I told the wife the good news and she said, "That is great baby I am happy for you..Hey can you cut the grass before the rain comes?" LOL so people just don't get it but I hope y'all understand how great I feel right now.

Congratulations.

The answer to your question is 1) network 2) get involved 3) beef up your resume 4) repeat -happypantsmcgee WSO is not your personal search function.

I was going to say that this is so mushy sounding it made me sick...but I got a shout out, so omelette that slide.

This mothafka right here! I know I'm new but I've been on this site for months. I can tell from your post you are an extremely nice guy who only wants to help others and of coarse break in. I wish more of my co-workers had your perspective on life. Congratulations and welcome to the club now go cut that mothafk'n grass. +1

J_monkeyseriously congrats.

Edit: wait, you have a wife? how old are you???

I am 28 years old! That is why I am so excited I was about to "have" to give up and go to other pastures. I have an amazing wife. She is an MD/PHD and prolly the sole reason I didn't quit was the fact I wanted to mirror her success (I have always been a tad jealous) and she always supported my goals.

Yeah I guess I am no longer dreaming. I will change it as soon as I think of something. Any suggestions?

Banker88Congratulations man.

Out of curiosity, what were your 3 biggest weaknesses? I always hated that question.

  1. impatient with BO stuff
  2. Not a fan of people with a lack of driver or ambition that doesn't match my own
  3. gullible I always mentioned what I'm doing to improve on each one

When he said ok now your 6th weakness I was caught off guard I just said well the wife could give you more then just 6 but I can't. He laughed and that was it

am I the only one that thinks this was, um, you know, a hint at wanting some of you know what? grass = the good and rain = the monthly visitor?

Just kidding. Congrats! Made my otherwise mundane Tuesday a lot better

Proud of you man. Glad things worked out for you. Don't forget about what you were able to do here the next time you run into a problem in life that you don't think you can overcome. Hard work and genuine interest are the only things you need to get to where you wanna be. Here's to you, and maybe I'll bump into you around the city sometime... and not even know it's you!

Wow! This is a great story! For all of us here on WSO who are still networking and job searching everyday, this is very inspirational! Congratulations on your success! Hats off to those who assisted in this job search and journey through the resume help/interview process. Enjoy your new career. I am sure that it will be fruitful!

Wow, it is absolutely crazy to come back and read this post and all these comments. Thank you to all. All I can say is the work is hard but can be rewarding. Once, you get in it feels like you can get in anywhere.

I owe this community so much and to all the newbies out there understand this site is an AMAZING resource and helped get this fool a career (I might be the dumbest guy on my team which would be insulting if they all were not geniuses).

I actually came back to do some quick research on IBP and trust this site more then any other. Keep grinding

Hi, i am in college and your post is of great inspiration to me. May i ask how things are going now? After these years, how hard was it to "adapt" to the lifestyle?

And by the way, how do you reach those users for advice? Do you PM just like that? Are they cool if someone does this?

Well I when I started I was even busier then I thought I would be (and I thought I would be extremely busy). It's September and I am actually taking my first vacation day of the year and I still feel guilty not being at my desk.

I have no reservations about reaching out to anybody. It has led to some wild stories where I had a VP at a BB tell me "why did I reach out to him he only talks to people on the associate level and up" while the CEO of that same BB emailed me back on a Saturday and set up a call to talk the following Monday.

The world of AM is changing and it's well documented where the cash is moving too. Heck, people on my team get nervous every time our stock value goes down another bip. I am actually re-evaluating things on my end as I can see where this industry is heading in 5 to 10 years.

You just got to not be afraid to look stupid. I am an idiot but a persistent idiot who will outwork anybody. My most brash moment and the reason I believe I got the job was I looked the panel in the eyes (if you can look a panel in the eyes) and said , "Is there any reason you believe I could not do this job?", during the interview. They gave me a reason and I countered it.

I was told later by one of them that was prolly the "best big d*** move" they have ever seen in an interview.

Wish I could be on here more but WSO is blocked at my job and when I get home I just want to workout and chill with the wife.

Hope this helps

No kids yet and the wife's career is doing great. Still in Texas but AM is changing and I'm not joking when I say people are really worried. I'm not a fan of the "sky is falling" but I do see AUM's going down and into smart betas.

Had lunch with a whole-seller who told me and some buddies "he couldn't give away actives right now".

Just as side note I might actually hate this post because I thought 28 was old. I would KILL to be 28 again!
