A dream delayed: S&T
I'm looking to enter Sales and Trading at a BB after graduation and I'm currently a sophomore at a Top Target (think HYPS). I applied to internships this summer and although I got a few interviews, I didn't get any offers.
My question is: What can I do this summer to better position myself for Junior year recruiting (aka when it really matters)? I am trying to network and hopefully get an opportunity at a smaller prop trading shop or perhaps even a boutique ibanking experience.
I've also heard having a large brand name (ie. BB) really helps on your resume so I've tried to network my way into some sort of an informal internship in such firms. Has anyone had positive experiences with this and could share some info?

First off, don't beat yourself up for not getting a S&T internship as a sophomore. I'm a junior at a target and know tons of qualified guys who struck out. To answer your question, literally anything finance related will work wonders for getting you first rounds. They understand that not all juniors will have interned for Goldman PWM their sophomore summer. My buddy was a basic finance excel monkey making $10/hr for a small business after his sophomore year and even that was super helpful. If you have a top (3.7+) GPA at a target and solid ECs any finance-related internship will land you first rounds.
Hell, I was a camp counselor after my sophomore year and ended up with multiple offers this year for SA.
I wish I was as determined as you currently are, OP. I enjoyed sophomore year (read: fucked around) too much.
I recommend milking every connection you have. Do your family members know people in the industry? Your friends' parents? Your school's career center?
Get in touch with everybody. Get on LinkedIn, etc. It's time to push; I think a lot of alumni would be more open to an eager sophomore. Well, they were to me.
It's already impressive that you got interviews as a sophomore. I'd keep pushing, network, use your connections, etc, but you're definitely on the right track.
try to get into PWM. getting into hometown PWM shops aren't generally very difficult. you might not get paid, but it's definitely worth it.
