About to start PE route and thinking about Trading.

I am finishing school and about to go the classic PE route. However, I have been having second thoughts about the career path and thinking about trading.

To be honest, I have always thought of "traders" as day traders that try and make a quick buck. I don't understand what traders do. Yet, the one place that always seemed the most exciting and happening was the trading floor. My biggest concern about work is not the money. It's that I'll be excited doing it every day. So the question, which is pretty open ended, is:

1) Do you love it?

2) What future as traders do you have? In the PE route, your learning skills to evaluate companies that can be transferred to many sectors. It seems you'll be left with one skill set as a trader.

Again, I'm asking out of ignorance. Any advice/ insights would be great. Lastly, is there any way to get a taste of trading to see if it really is of any interest? Thanks for the help.
