Aspiring Gekko

Bonjour monkeys,
I've been reading wso for a while now and didn't have a chance to post yet. I'm a freshman at a french undergrad bschool looking forward to breaking into S&T and maybe one day become one of Goldman's Big Swinging Dicks, who knows... (I'd be a good replacement of my fellow compatriot Fabulous Fab ! )
I feel like I passed the first stage of the process since I just landed an internship at one of the two well-known NYC-based stock exchanges this summer.

  • I applied there because it looked genuinely interesting but i'm not even sure what i will learn there will be applicable in S&T ? Although I guess the grunt work is the same shit everywhere ?
  • Is it a good alternative to the usual frosh/ sophomore PWM internship ?
  • What's the next move ? Should I begin networking my ass off to get a MM/ Boutique gig next summer ?
  • If yes, would the internship at the stock exchange be sufficient to get a top Boutique like Lazard or Rothschild internship next year as a sophomore ? (GPA somewhere around 3.5, strong extracurriculars but my school is totally unknown by US recruiters)
  • What kind of sophomore internship leads to summer BB S&T SA ? Already searched for this but couldn't find a clear answer
  • Should I search for an apartment in FiDi for this summer ? I heard most of the street interns lived in Murray Hill. All the single bedrooms at NYU and Parsons are already sold out

Don't forget to wear your finest contrast collared shirt and suspenders on your first day of work. It's important to let everyone know that you're the next big swinging dick.
